Tianjin Ancient Culture Street 天津古文化街

Tianjin Ancient Culture Street opened again in 2006 after being completely rebuilt. It has been widened quite considerably, and although the buildings containing the shops are new, they have been built in accordance with Ancient Chinese architecture.

Tianjin Ancient Culture Street is one of the best places to go and have a look at Chinese cultural products and souvenirs. There is also a Buddhist temple there as well as a stage where you can sometimes see Peking Opera performed some afternoons.

You will find all sorts of items for sale, such as traditional clothing, bags, musical instruments, watches, paintings, wall hangings, jewelry, and so much more. Be prepared to negotiate on the prices as many of the vendors will ask a much higher price for non-locals.

Gu Lou / Tianjin Drum Tower 天津鼓楼

Gu Lou is similar to Tianjin Ancient Culture Street in the products on offer. However, it seems to be not quite as busy. It is where the Tianjin Drum Tower is located as well as a small museum showing some photos and relics of old Tianjin.

Tianjin Antiques Market 天津沈阳道古物市场

Add: Shenyang Dao, Heping District, Tianjin, China 天津市和平区沈阳道

Tianjin Antiques Market is free to enter and peruse. It runs parallel to Heping Lu on Shenyang Dao and into some of the side streets. To tell the truth it’s going to be hard to tell what the genuine antiques are and what the aged objects are. I have been told by some locals that there is an industry where some items are made and then quickly aged to look old. No matter what, they still look cool.

Hours: Early morning until late afternoon daily.
